Not that, this isn't promising or I didn't enjoy it (and I certainly am picking this one up going forward), but after the stability of Slott, it may take awhile for a writer like Spencer to find his footing.more But it seems to take all of this double sized issue for Spencer to find the appropriate balance. Yes, Spidey does like to joke, and what made Foes and Ant Man so fun were the flippancy. He probably would have been better with a quick First Issue splash. In fact, I would say at $5.99, with all the extra pages that comes from a double sized issue, it tends to work against Spencer. Even for me, the "joking" tone is occasionally too much. In comparison to Slott, I think we might see an opportunity for higher "highs" but we might expect lower "lows". One gets the impression that Spencer has big things planned (nods to One More Day and other past storylines abound), so it seems reasonable to suspect that he’s going to do something that will have everyone up in arms before this one's finished. Ryan Ottley does a fine job of capturing what the title should look like. Fast and breezy, stuffed with wit.īut Amazing Spider-Man, well, that's kind of a big deal. He could write a style that was almost satire or parody, winking at tropes and conventions. That has always been fine for titles that seemed pretty peripheral like Ant-man and Foes (even on his own book The Fix). Spencer, from the start stamps his style all over this. Slott was a fine writer, but he kept it pretty traditional. I only caught part of those series, and my initial thought on Spencer holds strong.ĭan Slott wrote Amazing for many, many years of which I read a few. Of course, now everyone knows Spencer for his "Nazi" Captain America, but I feel like I wasn't touched by this in comparison. I was a huge fan of his Ant-Man and Spectacular Foes of Spider-Man, so I am pretty excited about this. Spencer, from Nick Spencer is taking over Amazing Spider-Man. Recommended for: Fans of Spider-Man – old and young! Some will find it too “jokey”, but in the end, it did its job in wanting me to read more and I’m curious to see how things unfold. This was a fun start, even though it’s exactly what I expected it to be. Just seems like lazy writing to introduce someone/something unexpected and “WOW” the reader. We also see the Kingpin pop up at the perfect time, which is a troupe of comic books that I’m not a huge fan of. Spidey has always been a family-friendly hero, and so Spencer plays it safe with his first issue. On that note, some people will find this extremely juvenile.
#THE AMAZING SPIDER MAN APK 2018 CRACKED#
Yeah, sure, I cracked up a couple times, but some of these jokes were clearly meant for kids. The problem with having so much humour is that not all of it lands. The art steps it up when Spidey is throwing down, but is rather dull otherwise. The action sequences were surprisingly really good.
Things are kept interesting with a couple unexpected twists and turns, which intrigues me enough to want to continue and read issue #2. We get the endlessly entertaining quips from the web-head. This was a fun, lighthearted introduction to Nick Spencer’s take on Spider-man.
